Patriotic Bicycle Parade returns July 1

Emma Mefford rides her tricycle during the 2021 Patriotic Bicycle Parade. This year's parade is scheduled for July 1.

The third annual Patriotic Bicycle Parade for strollers, tricycles, scooters, wagons, wheelchairs, and bicycles is scheduled for Saturday, July 1 at Camp Kysoc in Carrollton, with registration from 9:30 to 10 a.m near the flagpole at the parking lot.

The event is for children, ages toddler to 10, and parental supervision is required for each child. No dogs, please. All bikes, trikes, strollers, scooters, wheelchairs, and wagons should be decorated before arrival at the camp.

At 10 a.m. there will be a flag raising ceremony, a patriotic song, and bicycle safety instructions. The supervised parade route will "roll" through the upper, paved trails of the camp, ending at the Nature Center for Popsicles, prizes, and awards. Everyone will be able to take a short tour through the Nature Center to learn about Kentucky's native fish, wildlife, and insects!

Event coordinator Cathy Gilbert explained that the event is a parade and not a race, and parental supervision is required for each child.

"The idea is for children to have fun showing off their red, white, and blue decorated ‘wheels,’ and for parents and families to enjoy cheering them on the parade route," Gilbert said. All activities will conclude by noon.
