A Scott County deputy who was killed in the line of duty May 22 was laid to rest Thursday after an emotional ceremony.

Caleb Conley was gunned down during a traffic stop in Georgetown.

"Caleb was a dedicated and courageous deputy taken from us by a pure act of evil," said Conley's Scott County Sheriff's Department Capt. Jeremy Nettles.

"Like he said himself the day before he passed, in all caps, ‘Don't fear dying. Fear not living.’" said Scott County Sgt. Rob Tacket.

There were so many people who wanted to attend the services, it had to be held at the Scott County High School.

Conley's mother, Jolene Conley, spoke to the packed gymnasium. She said her son had wanted to be an officer since he was 3 years old. She said he would practice speed patrol by pulling his sister over with his tricycle, which was equipped with a siren.

The fallen deputy's wife also spoke wiping tears.

"He was many things to many people," said Rachel Conley, "But to me, he was my best friend, my rock, my safe place, the love of my life, the most amazing man I have ever known and my hero; to my children, a superhero."
