The £20 John Lewis pram accessory that can help avoid 'life
A detachable sunshade is a great way to help keep your baby cool during warm weather
John Lewis is selling a sunshade for a baby pram priced at £20, and it's a complete game-changer when helping to keep a toddler cool during warm weather.
As the summer sun begins to shine over the capital, it's so easy for parents to make simple mistakes when trying to keep their little ones safe while in the hot weather. However, parents who take their children out for a stroll in the sunshine have been warned to avoid a mistake that many make when trying to shade their little one from the hot weather, reports The Lullaby Trust.
During last year's heatwave, the charity raised awareness about keeping babies cool and say that parents must not cover prams with a blanket or cloth to shield their kids from the sun. Doing so can in fact make things worse, by creating a ‘greenhouse’ effect which can cause children to overheat. And John Lewis has now bought out a reasonably priced detachable sunshade for prams helping to avoid overheating your little ones.

The Lullaby Trust advises: "It's important that babies are kept cool when out and about in hot weather. Stay out of the sun if you can. Prams should be covered with a clip-on sunshade to keep baby out of direct sunlight and their temperature monitored to avoid overheating."
"The Lullaby Trust urges parents not to cover their baby's pram with blankets or cloths that prevents the air from circulating."
They add: "Covering a pram with a blanket could lead to overheating, which increases the chance of SIDS and creates a barrier between parent and child, making it difficult to spot signs that baby is getting too hot."
The John Lewis sunshade for pushchairs can help shield your little one while they're in their stroller as it blocks out harmful UV rays and offers UPF 50 protection. The shade is made from an air-permeable mesh to give ventilation and it also has another opening at the front of the shade for added ventilation or to keep an eye on your toddler.
While at Brighton Pier on Saturday, June 3, with my one-year-old son, I used the John Lewis sunshade over the front of my Nuna Triv Next to keep him cool and shaded from the 22-degree sunshine while on the go.
It was easily attachable to the canopy of the pushchair and fixed to the frame with easy-to-use attachment points. It makes a cool and cosy shield for toddlers and babies while out in their pushchairs, meaning they can relax. Happy baby, happy mum!
