Driver of Stolen Motorcycle Killed, Man Hurt in Minneapolis Crash

Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News)- Police in Minneapolis are investigating a deadly crash involving a stolen motorcycle.

A statement from the Minneapolis Police Department says officers responded to the report of a motorcycle and vehicle colliding at the intersection of 26th St. East and Hiawatha Ave around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday. The preliminary crash investigation indicates the motorcycle was traveling west on 26th St. when it ran a redlight at Hiawatha and struck a vehicle traveling through the intersection.

Responding officers found two injured adult males at the scene. The driver, described as a man in his 40's, died at the scene.

Police say the passenger was brought to a hospital. The severity of his injuries are unknown. The other motorist was not hurt.

Police say the motorcycle involved in the crash was reported stolen. Officers also recovered a gun at the scene of the deadly crash.

The Minnesota State Patrol and Minneapolis Police Department are investigating the crash. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to identify the man killed in the crash and determine his official cause of death.

Police say the passenger was brought to a hospital. The severity of his injuries are unknown. The other motorist was not hurt.
