2024 Lexus GX Teaser Gives Us Our Best Look Yet At Off

The new Lexus GX promises to bring significant advancements in styling, technology, and ride compared to its aging predecessor

Lexus is gearing up to unveil not one, but two two brand-new SUVs on June 8, expanding its offerings in the popular segment. One of these SUVs is the off-road-oriented GX, showcased here, featuring a robust body-on-frame construction. The second SUV is the TX, a softer and more refined three-row model built on a unibody platform, sharing its foundation with the recently introduced Toyota Grand Highlander.

While the new GX retains its characteristic boxy and rugged look, a fresh styling update, as seen in the latest teaser, brings it in line with the design language of the rest of the Lexus lineup. (Updated 6/6)

One of the oldest nameplates in Lexus’ range, the current GX model has seen minimal changes since landing into the market in 2009, despite two facelifts and various updates throughout its lifecycle making it high time for a complete overhaul and a fresh, clean-sheet design. Luckily, the teaser shots of the 2024 Lexus GX showcase a significant departure from its predecessor, particularly in the lighting department.

The 2024 Lexus GX features angular LED headlights that are sleeker and more simplified compared to its previous design. These headlights are seamlessly connected to the bumper intakes, surrounding a black spindle grille that ditches the traditional chrome accents – at least in the trim edition we’re looking at here. Notably, the bonnet boasts a distinct bulge, reminiscent of previous generations of the Range Rover, albeit with a modern twist.

The other two teaser images highlight the rear end of the GX, revealing a Prius-style full-width LED bar positioned on the upper section of the tailgate. Additionally, we get a glimpse of the boxy wheel arches located below the prominent fenders, accentuating the GX's sturdy and commanding presence. Furthermore, unlike the flat character line on the lower profile, there is a distinct step above the beltline that highlights the pronounced rear shoulders.

Although specific technical details of the 2024 Lexus GX have not been officially disclosed by the Japanese automaker, it is expected that the SUV will utilize a shortened version of the body-on-frame TNGA-F architecture. This platform is already utilized in various models such as the latest international market Toyota Land Cruiser 300, Sequoia, and Lexus LX600. By retaining a body-on-frame construction, the new GX will maintain its off-road capabilities while potentially offering improvements in on-road performance and ride comfort.

Furthermore, it is anticipated that the interior of the GX will showcase Lexus’ latest advancements in terms of infotainment, comfort, and safety technologies. These enhancements should provide a more luxurious and technologically advanced experience for occupants compared to the current model.

We will keep an eye out for more information on the 2024 Lexus GX as it approaches its debut. It is worth noting that the GX will be closely related to the next generation of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, which is also expected to be revealed in the near future
